Tree Care

Dr Stump provides tree felling and wood processing services.

We can also provide emergency removal and remedial works to make areas safe from dangerous trees and obstructions. A comprehensive risk assessment is undertaken for all tree care and felling works. The risk assessment also outlines how we manage obstructions such as overhead lines, public and private highways, buildings etc. Warning signs and cordons are deployed to shut off any public areas. Tree felling is carefully planned and inclement weather conditions taken into account.

Tree Care and Felling

Dr Stump offers aerial and ground-based tree work.

Tree Felling and removal of wind-fallen trees and branches is carried out using specialist cutting and safety equipment, however to support timbers being dismantled from hazardous locations (for example to avoid damage to nearby buildings) a crane would be deployed. We also provide sectional dismantling which is the process of removing medium to large trees piece by piece. This involves using ropes and spikes to climb the tree and, if needed, ropes to lower the branches. This technique is suitable for trees which are dead, dangerous, damaged or overhanging buildings and property. It is also suitable for areas with difficult access or of confined space.

Pollarding

Is a method of pruning that keeps trees and shrubs smaller than they would naturally grow. It is normally started once a tree or shrub reaches a certain height, and regular pollarding will restrict the plant to that height.

Branch Removal

Ensures the protection of the tree. When a branch is removed the final cut is made as close to the collar (where the branch joins the trunk or another branch) as possible to allow the tree to heal more quickly, but leaving the defensive ‘wrinkles’ of the branch which protect the live branch from the invasion of micro-organisms.

Dead Wooding

Refers to the removal of dead, dying or diseased wood and dead limbs from the crown or limbs which cross or compete with each other or are poorly formed. It removes these otherwise hazardous parts and protects the life of the tree.

The Crown

Refers to the work carried out to the branches, foliage etc which extend from the trunk of the tree, creating the tree’s overall shape.

The Crown

Crown Thinning

is the removal of the smaller branches within the crown to reduce density. It does not alter the overall size or shape of the tree. It allows more light to pass through, reduces wind resistance, lessens the weight of heavy branches and improves form.

Crown Cleaning

refers to the removal of dead, dying or diseased wood in the tree's crown. It also involves attention to snags or re-pruning of branch stubs, unwanted climbing plants and accumulated wind-blown debris.

Crown Lifting

is the removal of the lowest branches to provide a uniform height from ground level and to neaten the shape of the tree. This should not normally include the removal of large branches growing directly from the trunk as this causes large wounds which may jeopardise the life of the tree.

Crown Reduction

reduces the height and / or the spread of the crown of a tree by the removal of the ends of branches whilst maintaining the tree’s shape.
